Questions

What does the licence unlock?

During the beta, nothing: every version is free and complete, and Wren is the same browser with it or without it. From 1.0, a licence gives you the updates of its first two years.

Which versions does it cover?

Two years of updates, counted from the 1.0 release for a licence bought before it (one bought after the 1.0 release gets two years from its purchase). The price is a beta price and may rise after 1.0; a licence already bought keeps its two years.

What happens after the two years?

Nothing stops. The licence is perpetual: it never expires, and Wren never contacts a server about it. You keep using the last version released during your two years, for as long as it works on your computer. Newer versions need a licence whose updates cover their release.

Can I use it at work?

Yes. The licence is personal, for you as one named individual: install Wren on the computers you use, including a work computer, and use it in your own profession.

Is it a subscription?

No. You pay once: no subscription, no renewal, no expiry.

Does Wren check the licence online?

No. A licence is a signed key. Wren checks the signature itself, offline: it never contacts a server about your licence.

What changes without a licence?

During the beta, nothing. No window pops up, nothing reminds you, no feature is limited. Without a licence, about:wren says “Unregistered — free during the beta”; with one, it says “Registered to” your name, with the date and order number.

What about the source code?

It is public under the PolyForm Strict License 1.0.0 (versions up to 0.3.0 stay MIT). A Wren licence does not change what anyone may do with the code.

How do I register it?
  1. Open about:wren in Wren (menu, About Wren, or this link, which opens it in Wren whatever your default browser is), paste the key into the box and press Register.
  2. Or drop the .wrenlicense file you received onto the Wren window.
  3. To remove it, use Remove the licence on the same page.

Keep the e-mail, or the downloaded file, in case you change computers.
